One employee had accrued nearly 10 weeks of annual leave.

At first, it didn’t seem like a big problem to the business owner.

BUT AS THE EMPLOYEE’S WAGE INCREASED, the potential cost of that leave increased too!

This is one of those numbers that can sit quietly on a balance sheet until suddenly it matters.

An employee resigns.

Someone retires.

Several team members want to take leave at the same time.

Or the business finally realises just how much annual leave has accumulated across the team.

Annual leave is typically considered excessive when an employee has accrued more than 8 weeks of paid annual leave, or 10 weeks for some shiftworkers.

Under many awards, employers may be able to direct an employee with excessive annual leave to take some of it.

See the Fairwork website or search FAIRWORK EXCESS ANNUAL LEAVE as there are rules around doing this, including written notice and notice periods, so it’s important to check.

But here’s why now is the perfect time to look at it.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING.

Many businesses close or slow down over the Christmas and New Year period anyway.

That can make it an ideal opportunity for employees with larger leave balances to take some additional annual leave.

But don’t wait until December to think about it.

Start planning now.

Review your team’s annual leave balances.

Identify any excessive balances.

Have conversations with your employees about their Christmas leave plans.

If you’re considering directing an employee to take excessive annual leave, check the applicable award or enterprise agreement and the required notice periods now.

And importantly, forecast the cash you’ll need to cover it.

Your team taking well-earned leave shouldn’t create a surprise cashflow problem for the business.

If you know what’s coming, you can plan for it.

Christmas is less than three months away.

If you haven’t already planned for the cash your business will need over the Christmas shutdown and annual leave period, now is the time.

For a set and forget cashflow system that works, before Christmas, schedule a call now

Sometimes money simply needs a better system.

If cashflow still feels messy, or harder than it should be, now is the time to sort it.

Not next quarter.

Not when sales pick up.

Not when there’s “more money” in the bank.

Because another month of money coming in and disappearing just creates more of the same.

I see this even with profitable businesses more often than you might think.

Sales are coming in.

The business is busy.

The owner is working hard.

Yet somehow, when it comes time to pay themselves, cover tax or make a decision, there never seems to be quite enough cash sitting where it needs to be.

The problem isn’t always that the business needs to earn more.

SOMETIMES THE MONEY SIMPLY NEEDS A BETTER SYSTEM.

You need to know where the money is going before you spend it.

You need a simple structure that separates the money needed for:

Income

Profit

Owner’s Pay

Tax (GST and EOFY Income Tax)

Operating Expenses

So every dollar has a job.

That’s where Profit First can change the conversation.

Instead of the traditional:

Sales − Expenses = Profit

We flip it:

SALES – PROFIT = EXPENSES

Profit stops being something you hope is left over.

You intentionally allocate the money first, then run the business from what remains.

Simple.

Practical.

And incredibly revealing.

When you separate the money into its purpose, you can actually see what the business can afford.

You can see whether your operating expenses are sustainable.

You can prepare for tax.

You can pay yourself intentionally.

And you can start building a business where profit is planned rather than accidental.

There’s still a month left in the quarter.

That is enough time to make meaningful changes to how your cash flows through the business and head into the next quarter with a much clearer picture.

If you’ve been thinking, “I really need to get the cashflow sorted”, this is your moment.

MAKE IT HAPPEN

Prefer some support?

What if your next birthday came with $1 million for every year you’ve been alive? 💰

There’s just one catch…

You have to give away half.

So, what would you do with the money that’s left?

I was driving in the car this morning thinking about how I could help one of my sons think bigger and more expansively about his future.

I started thinking about the usual “magic wand” question.

If you could have anything, what would you choose?

But honestly that’s too vague for me.

I naturally think in numbers and financial outcomes.

So I thought… What if I had $1 million?

Too small.

I couldn’t even buy my dream house for cash with that amount.

So the number kept getting bigger.

$2 million.

$5 million.

$10 million.

I needed a number that felt big enough to think expansively, but realistic enough that it still had meaning… So I chose my age!!

Then something interesting happened.

My first thought was to give money to my loved ones.

And that made me realise something.

If I’m asking my son, or anyone else, to do this exercise, part of their brain may still be thinking about responsibility.

What about my family?

What about the people I care about?

So I added one simple rule:

You have to give away half.

Suddenly, that part was taken care of.

Family, friends, charity… whoever matters to you.

Now this gives you the permission to focus on yourself:

What do YOU actually want?

How much would you Keep?

How would you Spend it?

Would you Invest?

Would you Travel?

Buy something you’ve always wanted?

Build something?

Change Careers?

Start a new or different Business?

The goal now became specific enough to feel real, but expansive enough to reveal possibilities that may not have been considered before.

To Simplify it, Goal Setting with Specificity.

This goal setting method I feel would work particularly well for critical thinkers.

Business owners.

Sales professionals.

Accountants.

Finance professionals.

And anyone who naturally thinks in numbers, financial outcomes and tangible results rather than unlimited possibilities.

Because sometimes the fastest way to discover what you really want…
is to put a number on it.

💡 Try it yourself.

Imagine receiving $1 million for every year you’ve been alive on your next birthday.

Give away half.

Then ask yourself:

What would I do with what’s left?

I’d love to know what your number reveals about what you really want.

Enjoy this process 😊

It’s a simple and powerful way for building a healthy, profitable business.

It is also a great first step for anyone implementing the Profit First® cashflow system into their business, especially for when it feels like there is no profit left over at the end of the month.

Here’s how the 1% Profit strategy works:

Open a separate “Profit” bank account

Transfer 1% of all income (less GST) into this Profit bank account.

Do this consistently, no matter how small the amount seems.

Why Does It Work?

The process is proven to work. You may have already been using this strategy in another area of your life, like with your health or your time!

Just like going on a diet, one of the first steps is to clear out your cupboards and fridge to remove temptation. That’s exactly what we are doing here.

We are intentionally removing temptation, by physically separating the cash profit, so it is not mistaken as being available for expenses.

Why 1%?

We often get stuck thinking it requires a monumental shift, a huge effort, to change some habits that will achieve our goals. But what if I told you that change could happen in the blink of an eye, like when you take a shortcut you’ve just learned about on a long drive? It’s not as difficult as it seems, especially when you understand the power of love and fear in shaping our decisions.

Think about it—when you’re driving the same long route every day, it’s easy to feel bored or drained. But the moment you discover a new shortcut, you’re excited to try it out, right? You’re motivated by the possibility of making the journey faster and more enjoyable. This is where love comes into play. When you love the idea of a new habit, a new way of doing things, it becomes effortless to adopt.

However, when we don’t feel drawn to change, fear often holds us back. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear that we’re not ready. These fears can make us stick with old, unproductive habits because it feels safer, it’s less effort, even if they aren’t getting us where we want to go. The truth is, fear will keep you stuck, while love propels you forward.

Everything we do is motivated by either fear of by love

If you can tap into a love for the new habit—whether it’s a healthier lifestyle, better sales performance, or achieving your personal goals—the change will be natural and immediate.

But for bigger goals, like weight loss or hitting your sales targets, those take a little more time to manifest. These are the ones where fear can sneak in, saying, “This is too hard” or “It’s going to take too long.” That’s where acting as if becomes powerful. Act as if you’re already the person you want to be—the person who has successfully achieved your goal.

When you filter your decisions through that mindset, you start to make choices that align with the person you’re becoming, not just the person you are right now. It’s the subtle shift of making decisions based on who you want to be, rather than staying trapped in habits driven by fear or inertia.

The more you act as if, the more you step into the version of yourself that’s already achieving those goals. And just like the shortcut you love to take, the new habits will feel easier, more intuitive, and even exciting.

Here’s some simple new habits that can tap into love and propel you straight towards your goals:

HEALTH:

Taking the stairs instead of the elevator – Small effort, big reward in the long run.

Prepping meals in advance – Meal prep saves time and effort during the week.

Food Swaps – Swap something unhealthy for something healthy. A simple switch.

WEALTH:

Automating savings – Set it up and forget it, gets you to your destination faster.

Seeking mentorship – By learning from someone who’s been there, you bypass common mistakes and accelerate your financial growth.

Mastering time management – Prioritising tasks effectively allows you to get more done in less time, just like finding a quicker path to your destination.

HAPPINESS:

Starting each day with gratitude – A shortcut to a positive mindset and a happier day ahead.

Setting boundaries early – By knowing when to say no, you avoid potential conflicts, just like bypassing the busy road.

Decluttering your environment – Creating a peaceful space that brings calm and joy, much like finding a clear path.

So for 2025, start making decisions today based on love—love for the person you’re becoming, love for the goals you’re destined to achieve. And watch how quickly those new habits and goals start to fall into place.

The post Achieve Your 2025 Goals first appeared on Christine Jade Coaching.

Finding Time for Family: A Guide for CEOs and Business Owners

As the CEO of your company, you often wear multiple hats. You’re the leader, the decision-maker, and sometimes even the go-to problem solver. This intense responsibility can make it incredibly difficult to step away from work, even for important family events. Whether it’s a partner’s milestone, your child’s graduation, or an end-of-year celebration, the desire for a personal day off can quickly become overshadowed by the pressures of your role. But what if you could enjoy that time off without constantly checking emails or worrying about what’s happening back at the office?

The Challenge of Taking Time Off

For many business owners, the thought of taking a day off can feel like an impossibility. You might think, “What if something urgent comes up?” or “Can anyone else handle the responsibilities in my absence?” These concerns are valid. After all, you’ve built your business from the ground up and entrusted it to few. The idea of leaving your team without your guidance can be daunting.

The Solution: Effective Delegation of Results

The key to truly enjoying your time off lies in effective delegation. But this doesn’t mean simply handing off tasks. To ensure that your business continues to run smoothly while you’re away, you must focus on delegating results, not just tasks. Managers often take on too many tasks, leading to burnout and decreased productivity. By understanding how to delegate these tasks (responsibilities) to the right people, you can free yourself to focus on more strategic aspects of your business and enjoy personal time guilt-free.

For effective delegation, we have simplified the process into 3 specific questions.

1. Do they have the Right Skill Set?

First and foremost, it’s critical to delegate tasks to individuals who possess the necessary skills to complete them effectively. This doesn’t just mean picking someone who is available; it means identifying team members who have the expertise and capability to handle the responsibilities you’re passing on.

For a CEO in manufacturing, this could mean delegating production schedules to a production manager who understands the intricacies of your supply chain. For chiropractors, it might involve trusting a skilled associate to handle patient care while you’re away. By ensuring the right people are in charge, you reduce the risk of mistakes and help maintain the quality of service.

2. Do they have the Necessary Resources?

Delegation goes beyond just assigning tasks; it requires that the person you’ve entrusted has all the necessary resources to succeed. This might include access to software, training, or even financial resources. Ensure that your team members have what they need to complete their tasks effectively without coming back to you for assistance constantly.

3. Do they understand the result they are responsible for?

Finally, it’s vital to provide a sense of ownership in the delegated tasks. When team members understand that they are responsible for the results, they are more likely to take initiative and approach their tasks with a sense of purpose. Clarify expectations and establish checkpoints to monitor progress without micromanaging.

For example, if you’re overseeing a project, communicate the desired outcomes and set specific deadlines for each phase. Schedule regular check-ins or updates, but make it clear that you trust them to execute the plan. This fosters a culture of accountability, where your team knows they have the authority to make decisions while you’re away.

The Role of a Business Coach

Incorporating a business coach can also significantly enhance your ability to delegate effectively. A coach provides an external perspective and can help identify areas where delegation is lacking or ineffective. Here’s how a business coach can assist:

Skill Assessment: Coaches can help you assess your team’s skills and strengths, enabling you to delegate tasks more effectively based on capability.

Accountability: They can help create accountability systems, KPIs and metrics, ensuring that team members follow through on their responsibilities.

Strategic Focus: A business coach can guide you in prioritizing your own time and tasks, ensuring that you’re focusing on high-value activities while empowering your team to handle the rest.

Building Confidence: They can work with you to build trust in your team, allowing you to let go of the need to control every aspect of the business.

Enjoying Your Time Off

By effectively delegating results rather than just tasks, and with the support of a business coach, you can create a work environment where your team feels empowered and capable. This not only allows you to take that well-deserved personal day off but also enables your business to thrive without your constant oversight.

Imagine being able to attend your child’s graduation without worrying about missed emails or urgent calls. Picture celebrating your partner’s achievements while fully engaged in the moment, rather than glancing at your phone every few minutes. This isn’t just a dream; with the right delegation strategies and coaching support, it can be your reality.

To Sum Up

Your role is undoubtedly demanding, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of your personal life. By focusing on effective delegation, you can create a more balanced existence where you can take personal time off for yourself or for your family without the constant worry of your responsibilities. Empower your team, trust their skills, and allow yourself the freedom to be present in the moments that matter most. You and your business will be better for it.

Support: A business coach can help you design an effective referral program that balances cost and value, maximising the return on investment for your business.

When you ask a business owner why customers should choose them, the answers often sound alarmingly similar: “We offer the highest quality, the best service, the fastest delivery, and the lowest prices.” While these statements hold some truth, they rarely grab attention.

In a marketplace saturated with competing products and services, standing out requires more than just listing generic benefits. There is a need to establish a unique position that resonates deeply with your target audience.

The Challenge

In today’s hyper-competitive market, maintaining a long-term competitive edge based solely on your offerings or pricing strategies is nearly impossible. Customers are bombarded with similar messages, making it easy to overlook your business. When everyone claims to be the best, how can you ensure your message cuts through the noise?

The unfortunate truth is that if you can’t give your prospects clear and compelling reasons to choose your business, you risk becoming just another “me-too” company in their eyes. And since your customers are the ones with the money, that’s the only perspective that truly matters. The challenge lies in differentiating your business in a way that captures attention and inspires loyalty.

The Solution: Create a Unique Differentiating Factor

To rise above the competition, you need a clear, compelling differentiating factor—something that sets you apart in a meaningful way. Consider FedEx’s iconic promise: “When it absolutely, positively has to get there overnight.” This tagline doesn’t just state a service; it establishes FedEx as the go-to choice for urgent deliveries. Customers understand exactly what they can expect, making the decision to choose FedEx easy and intuitive.

The key to crafting your unique differentiator is to think beyond the standard offerings of your industry. You want to create a narrative that positions your business not just as a viable option, but as the only logical choice for your customers.

3 Criteria of a Unique Differentiator

1. It must be true

2. It must be relevant / wanted / needed

3. It must be measurable

Action Steps to Develop Your Unique Differentiator

1. Analyze Your Competitors: Start by examining your competition closely. Identify what they claim as their strengths. What unique selling propositions do they promote? Look for patterns and common claims to see where they overlap. This analysis will help you pinpoint gaps in the market—areas where you can carve out your unique space.

2. Understand Your Audience: Next, it’s crucial to dive deep into the mindset of your target audience. Conduct polls, surveys, or one-on-one interviews to uncover what prospects truly value. What are their pain points? What are their frustrations with existing options? Understanding their needs will provide valuable insights that can guide your differentiating strategy.

3. Identify Your Unique Strengths: Reflect on what your business does exceptionally well. This could be a specific feature of your product, an innovative service model, or an unparalleled customer experience. Consider your company’s history, culture, and mission—what makes you proud? Identifying these unique attributes will form the backbone of your differentiating factor.

4. Craft Your Message: Once you’ve pinpointed your unique strengths, it’s time to develop a clear, concise message that encapsulates your differentiator. Aim for something memorable and easy to communicate. Think about how you can share complex ideas into simple, impactful statements that resonate clearly with your audience.

5. Test Your Message: Share your differentiating factor with a few prospects or existing customers. Gather feedback on how well your message resonates. Are people intrigued? Do they find it compelling? Use this feedback to refine your messaging, ensuring it speaks directly to the needs and desires of your target audience.

6. Integrate into Marketing: Ensure your unique factor is front and center in all your marketing materials—websites, brochures, social media posts, and sales pitches. Your message should be consistent across all platforms, reinforcing the narrative you’ve crafted. Don’t just state your differentiator; illustrate it with case studies, testimonials, and real-life examples that showcase how you deliver on your promise.

7. Consistently Deliver: Finally, once you establish your unique differentiator, it’s essential to consistently deliver on that promise. Your reputation hinges on your ability to fulfill what you claim. Monitor customer feedback and be prepared to adapt as necessary to ensure that your offerings remain aligned with your differentiating message.

Real-World Examples

To better illustrate the power of a unique differentiator, let’s look at a few successful companies:

– Apple: Apple doesn’t just sell electronics; it sells a lifestyle. Their differentiating factor lies in their design aesthetic, user experience, and brand loyalty. They’ve positioned themselves as a premium brand that offers innovation and style, which commands a devoted customer base.

– Tesla: Tesla’s differentiation lies in its vision for sustainable energy and innovation. By positioning itself as not just a car manufacturer, but a leader in renewable energy, Tesla appeals to environmentally conscious consumers who want to be part of a larger movement.

To Sum Up

Creating a clear and compelling reason for customers to choose your business is essential for standing out in a crowded marketplace. By developing a unique differentiating factor and articulating it effectively, you can position your business as the go-to choice in your industry. Follow these actionable steps to redefine your business’s identity, engage your audience, and watch your customer base grow. In today’s competitive market, it’s not just about what you offer; it’s about how you make your customers feel and the unique value you bring to their lives.
